It is known
that, in grinding, heat checking occurs when grinding is done with a spindle
speed of 5,000 rpm, a wheel diameter of 200 mm, and a depth of cut of 0.04 mm
for a feed rate of 15 m/min. For this reason, the standard operating procedure
is to keep the spindle speed at 3,500 rpm. If a new, 250-mm-diameter wheel is
used, what spindle speed can be used before heat checking occurs? What spindle
speed should be used to keep the same grinding temperatures as those
encountered with the existing operating conditions?
